Opening up the rear of the home

The design reworks the rear of the property to create one clear and flexible family space. Kitchen, dining and informal living areas now sit together instead of feeling separated.

The new arrangement makes the home easier to use throughout the day. It also creates a more welcoming place for cooking, eating and spending time together.

Daylight from above

Large rooflights bring natural light deep into the extension. Their placement emphasises the height of the room and creates changing patterns of light across the interior.

This overhead light is particularly valuable in a mid-terrace property, where daylight cannot be introduced from side windows.

Warm and practical materials

Exposed brick gives the new living space texture and character. It is balanced by clean white walls, dark cabinetry and a warm timber floor.

The palette feels contemporary without becoming clinical. It also creates a comfortable backdrop for everyday family life.

A social heart for the house

The completed extension gives the property a generous kitchen, dining and social area. The spaces are open to one another but still have their own clear purpose.
