From bungalow to family home

The original property had the potential to become a generous family home, but its low form and internal character needed a complete rethink.

The transformation gives the bungalow a clear new identity. It also creates a stronger relationship between the main living spaces, the entrance and the garden.

A new pitched roof

The new roof form is central to the design. It changes the scale and appearance of the building while creating dramatic vaulted spaces inside.

Rooflights bring daylight from above. The additional height gives the kitchen and dining area a sense of space that would not normally be associated with a bungalow.

Bright and connected interiors

The main family space is open, practical and filled with natural light. A restrained palette allows the height, glazing and timber detailing to become the focus.

Large areas of glass connect the interior with the garden. The result is a home that feels calm, spacious and well suited to everyday family life.

A contemporary exterior

White render, natural timber cladding and dark window frames create a clean and robust material palette. The timber introduces warmth and helps distinguish the remodelled parts of the property.

The completed house has been modernised beyond recognition while retaining the practical advantages of its corner-plot setting.
